A Clean House is a Happy House

I am a clean freak. No joke. When my house isn't clean I feel like I can't focus, I'm grumpy and the world is coming to an end! (Drama Queen) Even now, writing this post, I am surrounded by piles of papers that need sorting, breakfast leftovers, toys on the floor and a dirty oven. (I know. I can't even see the dirty part but the fact that it is dirty inside is driving me bonkers.)

I love being organized. I am addicted to those shows (Clean House) that go into messy homes and clean them up. I practically drool over the closets they have organized. Sometimes I think about letting the house get really gross just so I can have a show come organize it for me. (But the thought of letting a camera crew and America into my dirty house makes me a little sick inside.)

Having two really active children doesn't help the untidiness of my home. I've had a hard time keeping up, so I made myself a chore chart. Laugh all you want, but it works!

My cleaning duties every week are split up as follows:

Monday: Dishes, Make Beds, Dust, Vacuum

Tuesday: Dishes, Make Beds, Upstairs Bathroom, Sweep/Mop

Wednesday: Dishes, Make Beds, Laundry, Vacuum

Thursday: Dishes, Make Beds, Downstairs Bathroom, Shred Documents

Friday: Dishes, Make Beds, Windows, Vacuum

Saturday: Dishes, Make Beds, Clean Out Fridge, Sweep/Mop

Sunday: Dishes, Make Beds (This is my day "off")

Some things like sweeping, vacuuming and bathrooms, are usually done more often than listed. This way everything gets done one way or another.

I'm looking forward to the day when the girls are old enough to help out more. Then mommy can take a much needed book break.

  3. Hi Cara,

I'm following you from Bloggy Moms. I think you gave me the wrong link on my profile on BM. So I went to your profile and found this blog. Hope it's the right one :-)

I am super impressed with your cleaning organization list!

  4. I have been thinking about doing one of these myself. I too go crazy when my house is a mess and with two active preschoolers, a crazy black lab (hyyyyper, and the dog hair, ugh), and my cat (woo, more shedding animals and a litter box, haha)... I fall behind a lot. Then I'd rather play on the computer than fix it, because every time I turn around I feel the crazzzzzy coming on, haha. But I would feel so funny with the chart and I know my hubby would laugh.

Stopping by and following from Bloggy Moms, and glad I did :o)

  5. Ya I think I need a list like this too :) I'm jealous of your organization here. I think I have a tiny OCD as well... but also have a tiny ADHD too... there not really working together well.. lol. Then add 3 toddler boys to the mix and it's just chaos :) but fun!

  6. I like your list and couldn't agree more! Following you from mommy blog. I'm also now having my kids, 4 & 6 years old help with cleaning! Yes, with my cleaners I know there is no harm to them, me or anyone breathing toxic fumes -- Plus, we actually enjoy cleaning now and I think it's great to have all the help a mom can have :-) and live in a healthier home environment too! Hope you'll visit. Make it a great Saturday!
